A feature of the public education system in NSW is the opportunity to provide time in class for education in ethics, faith and morality from a religious or non-religious perspective at the choice of parents.
SRE and SEE programs are available at STHS and is run by authorised volunteers of approved religious persuasions. This takes place in one period on a Tuesday in either Week 7 or 8 each term at the school.
Special religious education (SRE) is education in the beliefs and practices of an approved religious persuasion. Under the Education Act 1990, section 32External link, government schools allow time for special religious education. It is delivered by authorised representatives of approved religious groups to students who have nominated that religion.
Special education in ethics (SEE) is a program in ethical decision making, action and reflection within a secular framework. Under the Education Act 1990, s. 33AExternal link government schools provide an option of SEE to students who are not attending SRE.

Below is the list of approved SRE and SEE programs provided at the school:
- Christian Studies - provided by Churches of Christ in NSW (Fresh Hope), following the Think Faith curriculum
- Catholic Scripture - provided by the Catholic Diocese of Sydney, following the Christ Our Light and Life curriculum
- Islamic Studies - provided by Australian Islamic Education Services (AIES), the curriculum can be viewed here
- Ethics - Provided by Primary Ethics can be viewed here
On enrolment at STHS, the Year 7 parent/carer will be given the SRE/SEE participation letter to complete and return to the school.
If any parent/carer would like to change the attendance/non attendance of their son in SRE, please provide a written note to Mr Grinham.
Parent/carers may at any time notify the school in writing that they wish to change their decision. Students will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent/carer has requested a change in writing.
Students not attending SRE/SEE, will be supervised by STHS teachers in non-scripture groups where quiet individual activities occur.
