A feature of the public education system in NSW is the opportunity to provide time in class for education in ethics, faith and morality from a religious or non-religious perspective at the choice of parents.
A special religious education (SRE) program is available at STHS and is run by authorised volunteers of approved religious persuasions. This takes place in one period on a Tuesday in either Week 7 or 8 each term at the school.

Below is the list of approved SRE programs provided at the school:
- Christian Studies - provided by Churches of Christ in NSW (Fresh Hope), following the Think Faith curriculum
- Catholic Scripture - provided by the Catholic Diocese of Sydney, following the Christ Our Light and Life curriculum
- Islamic Studies - provided by Australian Islamic Education Services (AIES), the curriculum can be viewed here
On enrolment at STHS, the Year 7 parent/carer will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return to the school.
Students have been allocated to SRE groups according to the religious affiliation stated on their enrolment forms. If any parent/carer would like to change the attendance/non attendance of their son in SRE, please provide a written note to Mr Grinham.
Parent/carers may at any time notify the school in writing that they wish to change their decision. Students will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent/carer has requested a change in writing.
Students not attending SRE, will be supervised by STHS teachers and take part in meaningful activities, specifically an extension READ session.
