We field approximately 65 Grade teams for both Summer and Winter sport, and our students have a huge choice , including football, cricket, basketball, rugby league, table tennis, tennis, hockey, squash, softball, baseball, and AFL. Grade teams are open to any athlete, and trials determine which team they will join.
Many staff have a keen interest in sport, and have coaching qualifications. In addition, in certain sports the school employs fully qualified professional coaches. Team coaching frequently takes place before and after school, and enhances student skills and teamwork.
Fitness
The school also offers a non sport program, which is run by Blue Fit Fitness at Hurstville Aquatic Centre, where it is run by fully qualified trainers. As well, students can enjoy fencing and Summer tennis.
We have a small and well equipped fitness centre at Vera’s cottage, funded by the P&C. We also have extensive grounds for Sport. The school has five basketball courts, a gymnasium, a well maintained oval and cricket nets.
Sydney Tech is organised into six Sport Houses named after former Tech Principals, and each house has a Captain and a Vice Captain. They play an important leadership role in carnivals and in organising team sports for their peers.
We participate in State wide knockout competitions in all Grade sports played by the school, with much continued success.
We promote the strong connection between healthy vigorous physical activity and enhanced brain power which is grounded in scientific research.
