Our subjects

Sydney Technical High School's curriculum combines academic breadth with the depth and challenge expected in a selective learning environment. Students study a diverse range of disciplines, developing the literacy, numeracy, analytical reasoning and subject-specific expertise required for further study and future opportunities.

The school's technical heritage is reflected in its emphasis on mathematics, science, engineering and practical problem-solving, alongside the humanities, languages, creative arts and other areas that develop perspective, expression and critical thought.

English

Students learn about the English language through written, spoken and visual texts of increasing complexity as they progress through their schooling.

Mathematics

By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

Science

Science education at Sydney Technical High School fosters high academic standards and empowers students to become informed, innovative, and future-focused learners.

History

Students learn specific historical concepts and skills in history. They also have an opportunity to learn more about people and the societies and environments in which they live.

Creative arts

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of music and visual arts.

Languages

Language study allows students to develop communication skills, learn about languages as systems and explore the relationship between language and culture.

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE)

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Social Science embodies a number of dynamic learning opportunities that develop students’ business, commercial, geo-political and active citizenship.

Technology

In Technology, students develop knowledge, understanding and skills through a design and production process using a range of tools, materials and techniques in theory and practical lessons.
